Techniques in Protein Biosynthesis
نویسنده
چکیده
The large number and variable quality of recent research papers in the field of protein biosynthesis often has made it difficult for readers to discern clearly the experimental basis (or lack thereof) of the interpretation put on the results that are presented. A new series of volumes has been initiated, therefore, to provide critical discussions of the methods used in this active area of biochemistry. In Chapter 1, the editors have provided a sound and clear introduction to the present status of the problem of protein biosynthesis. Chapter 2 (by A. von der Decken) is a valuable discussion of the methodological problems in the study of protein synthesis in mammalian systems, and Chapter 3 (by J. R. Sargent) summarizes thoroughly the techniques and results in experiments on the biosynthesis of specific proteins (hemoglobin, serum albumin, etc.) in animal tissues. Chapter 4 (by M. S. Bretscher and 0. W. Jones) provides an excellent discussion of the experimental basis of the genetic code. The methodological aspects of work with ribopolynucleotides (prepared with polynucleotide phosphorylase or derived from such products by partial enzymic hydrolysis) are well summarized; the recent chemical and enzymic methods used by Khorana's group for the synthesis of copolymers with defined repeating sequence are not described, however. Chapter 5 (by K. S. Kirby) is an excellent account of the techniques used in the isolation of ribonucleic acids. The volume concludes with a useful appendix (prepared by the editors) containing miscellaneous techniques widely employed in experiments on protein biosynthesis, and with a serviceable index. The proliferation of expensive multi-volume series on biochemical topics has been widely deplored, and some may question the need for this recent addition to the list. If the contents of the first volume are an index of the quality of succeeding ones, however, the series will be an essential component of every biochemical library, and will amply fulfill the hope of the editors to help "those readers who are not able to learn the techniques at first hand and who may welcome some general guidance to the literature."

Ag-Conjugated Nanoparticle Biosynthesis Mediated by Rosemary Leaf Extracts Correlates with Plant Antioxidant Activity and Protein Content
In recent years, the world has witnessed an explosion of interest in biogenic synthesis of metallic nanoparticles (NPs), using plant extracts; however, the plant constituents involved in this reaction are poorly characterized. Here, major components of Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis L.) leaf extracts were isolated monthly during 2012-2013 and their competences for Ag–...

Background: In peppermint, precursors for the biosynthesis of monoterpenes are provided by plastidial methyl-erythritol-phosphate (MEP) pathways. Objective: In order to increase our understanding of terpene metabolism in M. piperita, the effect of salicylic acid (SA) and abscisic acid (ABA) in the modulation of expression pattern of genes involved in essential oil biosynthesis and secretion wa...
متن کاملProtective effect of vitamin E on cypermethrin-induced follicular atresia in rats ovary: Evidence for energy dependent mechanism
It has been shown that chronic exposure to cypermethrin (CPM), a pyrethroid pesticide, results in follicular atresia via pathologically affecting angiogenesis, disrupting endocrine potential and enhancing oxidative stress. This study was aimed to uncover the CPM-exposed energy dependent follicular cells apoptosis and to estimate protective effect of vitamin E (VitE) as a potent antioxidant. Thi...
متن کاملA Facile and Green Biosynthesis of Silver Nanostructures by Aqueous Extract of Suaeda Acuminata after Microwave Assisted Extraction
In the present study, a simple, efficient and fast synthetic strategy was reported for the green biosynthesis of silver nanostructures (i.e. nanoroads and nanoparticles) by the extract of Suaeda Acuminata plant, without any catalyst, template or surfactant. Aqueous extracts were obtained by maceration and microwave assisted extraction (MAE) methods. In MAE procedure, the effec...

3 beta-Hydroxy-Delta-5-steroid dehydrogenase is an important key anzyme of steroid hormone biosynthesis, which is involved in catalyzing the conversion of pregnenolone to progesterone in the biosynthesis of steroid sex hormones. This complex enzyme is the second enzyme in the steroid hormone biosynthesis pathway and it is identified as an autoantigenic target. In this study, a simple ...
متن کاملEnergy Flow from Root to Shoot: A Comprehensive In silico Analysis
Background: Root to shoot connection and transfer of information seems to be taken place mostly via the transmissions of signal molecules, secondary metabolites, amino acids, hormones and proteins, through xylem sap. Examination of earlier reports is indicative of relatively high levels of conservation in xylem sap protein compositions. Apparently these protein molecules are be...
